Eight-point micro coaxial cable assembly RFQ checklist

How to Specify a Micro Coaxial Cable Assembly: 8-Point RFQ Checklist

Most quotation delays are not commercial — they are missing technical details. A drawing that says “40-pin micro coax, 200 mm” leaves the supplier guessing about the connector suffix, the shield termination, the bend direction and the test requirements. This checklist covers what to include so the first sample is the right sample.

1. Connector series and full part number

Write the complete number, not the family name: for example DF56-40S-0.3V or 20453-240T-30P. The suffix controls plating, packaging and mated height.

2. Pin count and pin map

Attach the panel or camera datasheet page that defines the pin assignment, including ground and shield drain pins. Never rely on “standard wiring”.

3. Cable type and gauge

Specify 40 AWG, 42 AWG or 46 AWG micro coax, and whether the bundle needs an overall braid, a jacket, or both.

4. Length and tolerance

State the measurement points (connector tip to connector tip is typical) and the tolerance, for example 200 mm ± 5 mm. Also state whether length is measured along the cable path or in a straight line.

5. Shielding and grounding

Define how the shield connects at each end: full 360° shell contact, pigtail, or single-ended. This is where most EMI problems originate.

6. Impedance and pair matching

For LVDS and eDP, state the differential impedance (typically 100 ohm) and any intra-pair length matching requirement.

7. Mechanical constraints

  • Bend radius and the number of flex cycles expected.
  • Exit direction at each connector (straight, right angle, 45°).
  • Strain relief, labelling and whether the assembly passes through a hinge or gasket.

8. Testing and documentation

  • Continuity and hipot test yes/no.
  • Insertion loss or eye-diagram requirement.
  • RoHS/REACH declaration, UL style of the cable, and whether you need PPAP or first-article inspection.

Send this package through our engineering support form and we will confirm feasibility, tooling and lead time. Samples can be delivered in as fast as 3–5 days, and mass production in 15–25 days after drawing confirmation.

FAQ

Can you work from a photo of the old cable? For a first feasibility check yes, but production needs a drawing or a physical sample to confirm the pin map.

Do you sign an NDA? Yes, drawings and specifications are treated as confidential under NDA.

What is the minimum order? Low MOQ, with samples accepted before volume commitment.

Need help choosing? Send your panel or connector part number and we will confirm the mating series, pin count and cable construction before you cut a PO. Request engineering support or see our custom cable assembly capabilities.
